3 Budget-Minded Closet Organizer Tools

July 27, 2009 - Leave a Response

For those on a budget, I give you my 3 fave tools for organizing the closet without spending much money at all. Each items here can be bought for $10-25 depending on the quality and where you shop. In no specific order, this includes:

1. An over the door shoe rack. These are great!
2. A doubling rod. This give you twice as much space to hang clothes!
3. A closet shelf. Any kind of hanging shelf will do. The $10 cloth shelves that hang from the rod are a classic.

These 3 tools will truly go the distance in giving you lots of space to leverage to clean out the clutter.

Storage Organization Principles In The Closet

July 21, 2009 - Leave a Response

Storage experts and interior designers know that the are rules of storage that apply to not just living rooms and garages, but also bedrooms, closets, and pretty much every room in the house where we live. This involves some common sense thinking. First of all, if you use an object a lot, it needs to be placed in a spot where you can reach it without trouble. This means not up high or in an ackward ground spot where you have stretch or bend to reach it. Next, make sure you leave closet floor space for any heavier items or larger items. Then, the light items should be placed on the top or sides of any closet shelving you have available. This will keep all items easy to access!

Closet Organization With No Budget

Don’t have any money to spend on fancy closet organizer tools?

No worries.

It’s quite simple really, if you can handle it.

You can organize, usually, everything you own in a nice way if you follow the next two steps exactly.

1) Get rid of all clothes you’ve not worn or used in a year. This is a hard tip to follow, but it will give you a ton of space back in your closet for the next step.
2) Sort what’s left into like minded groups. This means placing all your jeans in one spot, all your tshirts together, all your dress shirts together, and so on.

These tips can be done without spending any money, only an hour or two of your time!

3 Good Times to Sort Your Stuff

July 9, 2009 - Leave a Response

These are 3 times I see that are the best for re-organizing not just our belongings but our lives.

This includes:

Springtime. Nothing like the best season of the year to purge our stuff and get back on track. Goes hand in hand with working out in the yard and in the garden, too.
Moving Out. If you’re moving out, use the opportunity to get rid of things you don’t use or need. You’d be shocked at how much this will amount to!
Moving In. Now here’s your second chance to do what you should’ve already done. When unpacking, notice what you never end up unpacking. Those boxes of stuff are good candidates for donations or the trash pike.

Even if you don’t move much, spring comes once a year…. don’t let it pass you up!

Don’t Go Overboard with Organization

June 27, 2009 - Leave a Response

Just an open thought, a warning of sorts I suppose.

Don’t go too crazy organizing things. YOu don’t want to go overboard here.

Sometimes the tendency to keep organizing is strong. It’s addictive, even a rush in some ways, to install awesome tactics for cleverly organizing our belongings. But life is short, and whether or not the closet is clutter free or not, you should be out there living it, enjoying things. If you find yourself getting caught up in the idea of organizing everything, take a break, and a take a few deep breaths, and try to get your head clear.
